Vegan cheese

Cheese is perhaps the most famous export product in the Netherlands. The first forms of cheese were discovered by the nomads about six thousand years ago. The milk was then often stored in pig or cow stomachs, and when they were taken on a journey, the movement of these stomachs caused the enzymes in the stomach to separate the milk into a hard and liquid substance; the two phases that we now know as curd and whey.

Analog cheese

Our Dutch cheese is consumed worldwide; however, this cheese is not suitable for people with lactose intolerance, cow’s milk allergy or a vegan diet. Fortunately, there are also alternatives to the cheese for this group. The most common choice is vegan or analogue, potato starch-based cheese. This starch provides a solid cheese, and the neutral taste and smell of potato starch can create the desired type of cheese with a flavour or dye. Therefore, all types of spreadable, sliceable and shredded cheeses are also accessible to people who cannot or do not want to consume animal cheese.
